design role: Set and Costume designer, Scenic Artist. director: Sonia Fraser company: Fresh Glory Productions venue: Riverside Studios; touring 20 national venues date: 2008 Briony Lavery’s1998 play Frozen addresses the difficult topics of paedophilia and murder. Set over a twenty-year period, it portrays the lives of a bereaved mother, the paedophile who attacked her daughter, and a neuroscientist studying the paedophile’s brain. The set was an irregularly shaped low stage, differently configured according to venue, low under-floor lighting, and projected slide images. The floor design reproduced laser-imaging of brain cells, and the slides were also often of brain scans, or photographs of cells, as well as images evocative of the personal memories of the characters. Old-fashioned slide projection was used rather than film, to create a series of ‘frozen’ images. review extracts "Deeply moving... The cast rise superbly to the challenge... Deserves to be seen" What's On Stage "The best acting in London...Bryony Lavery's play (is) spare, intense, simply staged and brilliantly well-acted throughout" The Mail For more images, reviews and information on the company go to www.freshglory.com
