modern poetry in translation
Founded in 1966 by Ted Hughes and Daniel Weissbort, Modern Poetry in Translation claims the title of Britain's most important poetry translation publication. It issues biannually and is distributed internationally. MPT publishes translations, original poems, short essays, and reviews that address political and social issues worldwide, giving voice to huge number of multinational and multi-linguistic contributors. David and Helen Constantine, the Editors since 2004, seek to extend and vary the whole idea and practice of translation. Its far-reaching, ambitious approach places poetry and the translation of ideas and attitudes at the heart of a truly global discussion on matters that affect us all. Cover designs by Lucy Wilkinson since 2004. ‘MPT is the Fifth International; anyone who wants to change th world and see it changed should join’, John Berger, Poetry International Event, QEH, 2008 "MPT forms a unique and invaluable service - extending the range of world-reading, and making all those who care about poetry feel grateful to be part of a larger community ..." Andrew Motion "MPT has ... opened windows on landscapes of feeling, on insight otherwise inaccessible..." George Steiner ".a triumphant demonstration of what taste, discrimination and sheer commitment can achieve, with the right support ..." John Pilling, PNReview 89 'MPT is the only truly international journal in Britain' James Kirkup 'there may be several versions of a cover, showing working ideas as well as final covers',
